1. turn back the hands of time  – to return to a time of one’s past; to restore one’s youth

시간을 되돌리다, 과거로 돌아가다

 

예문)

A: If you could turn back the hands of time, what time in your life would you go to?

시간을 되돌릴 수 있다면, 인생의 어느 때로 돌아가고 싶어?

B: I’d go to my university years and spend more time studying.

대학 시절로 돌아가서 공부하는 데 더 많은 시간을 보내고 싶어.

 

예문)

I wish I could turn back the hands of time and be a kid again.

과거로 돌아가서 다시 아이가 될 수 있다면 좋겠다.

 

 

 

2. the extent to which… - the degree to which something happens or will happen

~정도

 

예문)

A: How bad was the earthquake?

지진이 얼마나 심했나요?

B: We still don’t know the extent to which the buildings have been damaged.

우리는 아직도 건물들이 어느 정도 피해를 입었는지 모릅니다.

 

예문)

A country’s happiness is rated on the extent to which people feel safe and satisfied with their lives.

한 국가의 행복은 사람들이 자신의 삶에 안전을 느끼고 만족하는 정도에 따라 평가됩니다.

 

 

 

3. get over something – to recover from something either mentally or physically

~을 극복하다, ~으로부터 회복되다

 

예문)

I saw you out with Jeannie last night. That’s great!

어젯밤에 네가 지니랑 있는 걸 봤어. 잘됐다!

Yeah, I finally got over Melanie and am ready to have fun again.

응, 드디어 멜라니를 잊고 다시 즐길 준비가 됐어.

 

예문)

I never got over losing the championship game by one point.

나는 결승전에서 1점 차로 진 것을 결코 극복하지 못했다.
